Earlier this year, Land Rights Now and partners called on the Liberian authorities to pass the pro-community Land Rights Act. We are excited to share that Liberia’s Senate has just passed the pro-community Land Rights Act into law. And it wouldn’t have happened without thousands of people raising their voices around the world and in Liberia!

This is Liberia’s first comprehensive land rights act and will uplift the lives of 3 million Liberians who depend on land for their livelihoods. People will have the power to decide the future of their lands, sustainable investment and development opportunities, and protection from unscrupulous corporations.

We will continue to support Liberia’s Civil Society Organizations Working Group on Land Rights Reform, who will see that the law is signed and enacted by President George Weah – and continue to advocate for its implementation.

This is a historic win and could not have happened without you!

If you want to be part of more victories like this, please join our World Food Day mobilization  happening from October 15-26 this year. We are calling on governments around the world to secure the land rights of Indigenous Peoples and local communities – which can prevent millions of people from going hungry.

Thank you again for your support,
The Land Rights Now Team
